Be strong enough to be gentle.

Peter Cullen said that. His family asked us to remember it when he died in August 2026. It fits this place better than almost anything else we could put on the shelf.

For millions of people, he was Optimus Prime. Not a costume. Not a logo. A voice — steady, decent, unafraid of sounding kind. He will always be the best Optimus Prime. That is not nostalgia talking. That is the standard. Others may speak the lines. He owned the character the way a good person owns a promise.

He also gave Eeyore that soft, honest ache, and a hundred other voices over a long working life. But for a lot of us, it starts and ends with a truck that became a leader who never confused strength with cruelty.

What the loss feels like

It is a huge loss. Not only because a famous voice is gone, but because the particular tone he carried is rare: authority without swagger, courage without hardness, patience without weakness. Kids heard it. Adults still hear it. When someone like that leaves, the room feels a little thinner.

Even Ground is not a Transformers site. We write about walks, kindness, and ordinary weeks. Still — if you grew up on that voice, you already know the thesis. Be useful. Protect people. Stay gentle when you could get loud. Strength that needs to bruise someone to prove itself is not strength.
